[Click here to return to parent post: Converting an Impress Presentation to a Video]
If you do not have Windows Live Movie Maker Beta, it can be downloaded for free from Microsoft. Just do a Google search on the name and you'll find it.
After you have completed the preparations, do the following:
(1) Launch Windows Live Movie Maker Beta. To insert JPEG images, left click on either "Add videos and photos" or "Click here to browse for videos and photos."

(2) I find it easiest to to add all the images at once. Select all the images by either (a) left-clicking on the file names in sequence while holding down the "Ctrl" key, or (b) drawing a "box" around the file names by simultaneously holding down the left mouse button and the "Ctrl" key. (This was the rationale for the preparations above.) When ready, left click on "Open."

(3) The JPEG images will now be inserted into the "movie," in ascending name order. (Or, at least, that's how it works on my computer.)

(4) To have the audio from the Impress presentation play along with the slide images when the movie is played, use the "Add Music" tool.

(5) To synchronize and audio clip with the corresponding image, (a) left click on the image, (b) left click on the down arrow for "Add Music" and (c) left click on "Add music at the current point."

(6) Navigate to where you saved the audio files, left click on the MP3 file with the same name as the JPEG image and left click on "Open."

(7) A green audio bar will now be synchronized with the beginning of the JPEG image.
Note that in this example, the audio clip runs over into the 2 following images. To correct this, it is necessary to increase the playing time of the image, so the image display in the movie ends after the playing of the audio clip.

(8) To lengthen the viewing time of an image, copy and paste it as many times as necessary to make it longer than the audio bar. To do this: (a) right click on the image and select "Copy" from the menu . . .

(9) . . . and (b) right click on the image again and select "Paste."

(10) A second copy of the image will be inserted after the original, doubling the playing time. Repeat this process as many times as needed.

(11) Right now, the audio is set to begin as soon as the image appears. Sometimes, it might be useful to the learner if there were a slight pause before the audio. To do this, simply left click on the green audio bar and drag it to the right.

(12) There will now be a slight delay between the appearance of the JPEG image and the audio. Drag the green audio bar back and forth to the right and left until you are satisfied with the timing.

(13) Repeat the process for the remainder of the images and associated audio clips.

(14) To preview the movie at any time, left click on the "Play" arrow.

(15) A preview, with audio, will play at the left of the screen.

(16) To save the movie in a format that can be played on a computer or burned to a DVD, (a) left click on "Save movie" and select the format from the menu that appears.

(17) Navigate to where you want to save the movie on your computer and left click on "Save."

(18) A small screen will appear, showing the progress of the format conversion and the save.

(19) When the process is complete, you will be given several options:
(a) left click on "Play" to view the movie in a media player on your computer,
(b) left click on "Open folder" to open the folder that contains the file you just saved or
(c) "Close" to close the window without doing anything.

(20) To save the project for later editing or conversion within Windows Live Movie Maker Beta, (a) left click on the down arrow at the upper left of the window, (b) left click on "Save project,"

(21) . . . (c) navigate to where you wish to save the project on your computer and (d) left click on "Save."

If you saved the movie in Windows Media Format (.wmv) on your computer, Any Video Converter or another tool can be used to convert it into formats not supported by Windows Live Movie Maker Beta.
