Movies with Subtitles

Because you can turn on English subtitles when watching a DVD, using them makes it easier for learners to follow the dialog. If the learner already owns the DVD, it is permissible to rip the soundtrack, convert it to MP3 format and copy it to an MP3 player for the learner to listen to while doing other things. The soundtrack could also be burned to a CD for use in a car CD player.

NOTE: IT IS A COPYRIGHT VIOLATION TO GIVE THE SOUNDTRACK TO SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT OWN THE DVD.

As region 1 DVDs (USA and Canada) are in both English and French, with subtitles in both languages, I've started doing this with French versions of movies. It works extremely well!

You can find a lot of good DVDs at bargain prices in discount racks. Amazon.com also has a lot of good deals.
