Downloading and Installing Windows Version of Audacity

The homepage for downloading Audacity can be found at this address: audacity.sourceforge.net .

I've used the beta version (version 1.3.9) for several years and have had no problems with it. You can download this version from this link: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/beta_windows .

Under "Optional Downloads" on the same web page, also download and install the LADSPA plug-ins 0.4.15 installer and the LAME MP3 encoder . You will need the MP3 encoder to save audio files in MP3 format. Follow the instructions for installing these extensions.

If you don't have an zip utility to unzip the LAME MP3 encoder, a free tool called "ZipCentral" is very good. It can be downloaded from the following address: http://download.cnet.com/ZipCentral/3000-2250_4-12401.html . I use it on two computers running Windows Vista and it works fine.

Note: cnet Download.com (http://download.cnet.com/windows) is a safe site for downloading free software. All software is tested to make sure it's completely free of spyware, viruses, and other malware before it is listed.
